Dialetheism, Game Theoretic Semantics, and Paraconsistent Team Semantics

چکیده
We introduce a variant of Dependence Logic in which truth is defined not in terms of existence of winning strategies for the Proponent (Eloise) in a semantic game, but in terms of lack of winning strategies for the Opponent (Abelard). We show that this language is a conservative but paraconsistent extension of First Order Logic, that its validity problem can be reduced to that of First Order Logic, that it capable of expressing its own truth and validity predicates, and that it is expressively equivalent to Universal Second Order Logic Π11. Furthermore, we prove that a Paraconsistent Non-dependence Logic formula is consistent if and only if it is equivalent to some First Order Logic sentence; and we show that, on the other hand, all Paraconsistent Dependence Logic sentences are equivalent to some First Order sentence with respect to truth (but not necessarily with respect to falsity). Theism and Dialetheism
The divine attributes of omniscience and omnipotence have faced objections to their very consistency. Such objections rely on reasoning parallel to the semantic paradoxes such as the Liar or the set-theoretic paradoxes like Russell’s paradox. With the advent of paraconsistent logics, dialetheism— the view that some contradictions are true — became a major player in the search for a solution to ...
متن کاملInformation, Negation, and Paraconsistency
This paper begins by arguing that a truth conditional approach to the semantics for relevant logic is unnatural. Rather, we should adopt an informational semantics. On this view, the indices in the RoutleyMeyer semantics are situations, which can be said either to contain or not contain, particular pieces of information. Valid inference, then, is seen as information preservation, not truth pres...
متن کاملGame theoretical semantics for some non-classical logics
Paraconsistent logics are the formal systems in which absurdities do not trivialise the logic. In this paper, we give Hintikka-style game theoretical semantics for a variety of paraconsistent and non-classical logics. For this purpose, we consider Priest’s Logic of Paradox, Dunn’s First-Degree Entailment, Routleys’ Relevant Logics, McCall’s Connexive Logic and Belnap’s four-valued logic. We als...
متن کاملSome Non-Classical Methods in (Epistemic) Modal Logic and Games: A Proposal
In this proposal, we discuss several non-classical frameworks, and their applications in epistemic modal logic. We largely consider topological semantics, as opposed to widely used Kripke semantics, paraconsistent systems, as opposed to consistent systems, and non-well-founded sets, as opposed to ZF(C) set theory. We discuss topological public announcement logics, introduce homotopies to modal ...
متن کاملA Double Team Semantics for Generalized Quantifiers
We investigate extensions of dependence logic with generalized quantifiers. We also introduce and investigate the notion of a generalized atom. We define a system of semantics that can accommodate variants of dependence logic, possibly extended with generalized quantifiers and generalized atoms, under the same umbrella framework. The semantics is based on pairs of teams, or double teams. We als...
